On November 12, one of Canada’s best ski resorts will start welcoming skiers and snowboarders back to Jasper. All the things that people love about Marmot Basin – the lack of lift lines, the crowd-free slopes, the affordability – will remain for the 2020 season, but there will be a few COVID-19 compliant changes on the mountain to help keep guests and staff safe.
Here’s what to expect.
Perks to remember
Want to avoid crowds? Marmot’s roomy reputation is especially true during mid-week, when you’ll also be able to find special online prices on lift tickets. Their spacious 91 run, 7 lift paradise will make you feel like you’ve got the place all to yourself.
Also, Marmot’s unique parking lot system means that you can ski directly to/from your vehicle anytime throughout the day. Whether you need to zip back to access extra gear/clothing or want to eat your picnic lunch in the comfort and security of your own space, you won’t have to endure a long clomping trek from the main lodge. The four parking lots are tiered alongside a novice run called “Home Run”.
Before you arrive
- You will not be required to reserve a time slot, nor required to share a lift with people not from your cohort if you don’t wish. If you want to ride the lift individually, kindly communicate your request to our lift operators prior to loading.
- Pre-booked lift tickets, lessons, and rentals are encouraged, and can be done online.
- Please refrain from visiting the mountain if you are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 (including fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sore throat or runny nose).
- Any staff who are experiencing any of these symptoms will be asked to stay home until they receive a negative COVID-19 test.
Face coverings
Though face coverings are not required while skiing or snowboarding, they will be required in the following situations:
- In all indoor spaces and restaurants, unless seated in a designated seating area.
- In all lift lines, no exceptions.
- While riding chair lifts if you`re sharing a chair with others not a part of your cohort group.
- At all times when participating in a ski or snowboard lesson.
- While riding shuttle buses.
Cafeterias, restaurants and indoor spaces
- Alberta Health Services guidelines will be followed by the food and beverage team such as appropriate spacing between tables. Seating capacity will be reduced in the chalets to accommodate this.
- Only cashless payment methods will be accepted at all food and beverage locations, and grab-and-go options will be available in the cafeterias.
- Table space in cafeterias and restaurants will be reserved for only those purchasing food and beverages. Please be courteous by minimizing your time in these spaces to make space for other guests.
- Personal belongings are to be stored in lockers, cubbies, or in your vehicles. Leaving bags and belongings under tables or on chairs is prohibited.
- Temporary outdoor shelters will be offered, reducing the amount of people in our indoor spaces.
Rental shop and retail store
- All rental equipment will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses.
- Social distancing measures are in place in these areas, and masks are required at all times when inside the rental shop and retail store.
Snow sports school
- Please contact Marmot to reschedule or receive a refund if you have a lesson booked that you are unable to attend due to presenting symptoms of COVID-19.
- Group lesson size will be reduced to 5 people maximum
- Face coverings are required in lessons
- Lunch programs will not be available this season
- Contact tracing is in place for all lessons
- Additional staff members will be available as required to assist children with lifts
- Lessons for ages 3 - 5 years old will only be available as a private lesson (discounted rates apply)
Physical distancing, touch points and sanitization
- Hand sanitizer stations are placed in convenient locations throughout the facilities. Use them frequently.
Marmot is working on reducing and eliminating touch points wherever possible, including but not limited to:
- Propping open doors
- Encouraging the use of cashless payment methods
- Developing online versions of select waiver forms
- Physical distancing measures are in place in chalets and lift lines where you`ll be required to maintain two meters or six feet of distance from others.
- Marmot Basin shuttle buses will only be utilizing window seats, restricting the buses to half capacity to ensure more space.
- Plexiglas barriers have been installed where appropriate throughout our chalets and restaurants.
These policies and procedures are subject to evolve and change at any time. Please continue to check our website for updates. Marmot Basin reserves the right to limit capacity and these limits may change.
