Jacques Lake Trail Overnight Hike
by Canadian Skyline Adventures
The Jacques Lake Trail is a wonderful trail with minimal elevation gain. It is perfect for the beginner backpacker in the Rocky Mountains. This trail offers a backcountry experience that always impresses, with only 150m of elevation gain it is a hike that most people can do that is very rewarding.
There are two summit lakes on this hike. Guests will be having lunch at the first summit lake on day one and the second summit lake on day two. These lakes are the hydrological apex of the area. For the evening we will be camping at Jacques Lake, which is a habitat for the mighty Canadian Moose and home to various types of waterfowl. We can’t guarantee wildlife sightings but we’ll definitely have a campfire, complemented by a hearty meal prepared by your guide (who is also a great cook!)
If we are lucky enough to have a clear night we will get up to enjoy the incredible night sky in our fantastic Dark Sky Preserve. The following day we will have an easy morning with a large breakfast. After we break camp we will make our way back to the trail head on Maligne Lake Road, this road is one of the best places in Jasper to see wildlife. Jacques Lake trail head is also located across from the mysterious Medicine Lake, part of one of the largest Karst systems in the world. Your knowledgeable guide will explain the wonders of this area while helping you to have a pleasant backpacking experience.
