Tangle Ridge Day Hike
by Starry Summit Mountain Adventures
Perched east of the Columbia Icefield, Tangle Ridge is one of the best hikeable viewpoints in the range. From the summit, hikers can glimpse Mount Athabasca, Snowdome, and a sea of peaks across the range. Our journey starts by driving an hour south of the Jasper Townsite to a parking area beside the scenic waters of Tangle Falls. A good trail leads up into the forest before emerging into the alpine where a faint path in scree (small stones) rises to ridgecrest. This hike involves a considerable amount of elevation gain 1150 m over 10.8 km of distance, but lightweight packs and a steady pace make it suitable for a wide range of adventurers.
Your guide, Ben Nearingburg, is a Jasper-local and author of several guidebooks who help you connect with the history, and ecology of the Jasper region. At the summit of Tangle Ridge, we can munch on a tasty lunch while we have ample opportunity to enjoy the landscape. We provide hiking poles, lunch, and water for your ascent; all you need to bring is a pair of boots and a sense of adventure.
